I would like to invite all who care to, to consider what censorship could be like after the internet is “Protected” by the legislation currently being decided upon.
I would first assert that I do not advocate piracy and/or theft of Intellectual Properties and the abuse and exploitation associated as such.
However, I ask you to ponder how vague legal language can be used to punish anyone suspected of infringement.
Here on the Internet , such as Tumblr, Google+ and FaceBook we enjoy the luxury of sharing images and videos with friends and family in the endevor to connect and feel connected with them. In the past the ownership of this content has come under scrutiny, and will continue to do so.
This scrutiny will soon spread to many of the web pages we visit and share with our communities. Currently if you post a video unintentionally containing content you do not own can be removed. Ergo, if I put something YouTube that has music, a movie or a television show in the background, YouTube can and will remove it upon request. In most cases a simple ” My bad, I’ll try not to do it again.” will suffice. But what if it doesn’t, what happens next and how far will it go?
What does the future hold for all of us? Will there come a time when I can’t draw “fanart” or create an homage to another artist work because those in possession of the right of a given Intellectual Property believe I am a counterfeiter or pirate. I may face legal action including but not limited to the seizing and termination of my assets.
All I ask, again, is for those who care, to consider what I have to say and ponder what it means to you.
It was my intent to give my 2 cents to anyone who was interested or shared similar ideas on the internet. I, like many have been spewing verbal tripe in the place of the sophistocated ideas we would like to think we do. I apologise, I will try harder, henceforth I will refrain from profanity and bickering in an effort to share the ideas I have and wish others to consider.
I’m off to my fancy hair cut @AmericanMale. I’d say I have butterflies, but I think Hornets are more manly.
Arcade Fire won a Grammy this weekend for Album of the Year, making them the first act not signed to a major label to get the honor. The problem is that… apparently a lot of people haven’t heard of them. Here’s a little hilarity/ soul-crushing for my fellow IHC minions:
tumblrbot asked: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INANIMATE OBJECT?
My favorite inanimate object is a book. Yep, a book, because a book can be many different things to many different people.
Far be it from me to browbeat Academics with my poorly endowed grammarian phallus, but while watching BookTV on CSPAN, I find myself longing for “Yellavision”. I wish sometimes you could yell at the TV and be heard, in this case, a man is taking questions about his new book. To my initial point, ASK A QUESTION! STOP MAKING 5 MINUTE STATEMENTS FOLLOWED BY A 10 SECOND QUESTION! THIS MAN WROTE A BOOK, HE DOESNT NEED YOU TO TELL HIM ABOUT IT, JUST ASK THE QUESTION…
Video killed the Radio Star, my ass, it killed imagination and the ability to accept alternate view points. For too long I have bit my lip whilst my fellow nerds verbally defecate on every attempt to please them. Today I present to you Beast from the upcoming “X-Men: First Class. This image was recently compared to a popular Broadway Musical. Eat a Dick, better yet, do it better or have a sip from the bowl.
I think it was Bolt, the first true Social Network that I was introduced to in the “this is a place to meet people and keep in touch with your friends” model. Before that it was Fourms and BBS message boards that seemed to be this far off idea that was scary when you are a Noob. When you are a Noob and the internet is a magicaly inconcevable series of tubes, like the enterance to Hogwarts train terminal, invisable to the eye, but there, or there… …Everwhere and nowhere, scary scary. Anyway, Bolt was easy, way easier than hand coding crude HTML over your own MS Paint graphics and trying to get your lameass friends to email you. Everything then was all Chatrooms and IM’ing and email had become too official or if you are like me, it was just too damn hard for everyone of your friends to remember your email addy or screen name, those you cared to give it out to. So for me Bolt begat Friendster which led me to Myspace. A few months after I singed up for bolt I was invited to join a message board and that whole situation had become demystified for me and I lost intrest in Bolt. Somewhere around the same time a close friend told me I just had to join friendster, so I did and it was lame. Fortunately for me and, well everyone apparently, this new cool Myspace thing had just started up and it was Hot Hot Hot! That was then and this is now. I think it has… wait, even better. Forgive me Server, it has been 3 months since my last login and I have suspended my Facebook account to join the Twitter and am starting up my tumblr account. First it was bulletins, man I hate chain mail(although I really do love Chainmael, which incidentally is mostly spelt the other way), the problem is if you ignore someone’s dumb chain-letter they ignore your actually important bulletin. So on and so forth we go, blah blah blah, no one really cares. Now decisions are made with consideration to how something posted on a website will directly effect you real life.
